La Morra

LA MORRA is among the leading formations specializing in the performance of late medieval and early Renaissance European music. Following its Antwerp debut in 2000, La Morra has performed at some of the most prestigious European and North-American Early Music events, in Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Switzerland and the United States. Concert tours have also taken the ensemble to Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. Prizes such as Diapason d'Or or Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik (both awarded for the anniversary release of Johannes Ciconia's complete works, recorded together with Diabolus in Musica), and distinctions such as Diapason 5, Goldberg 5, Recording of the Year (medieval.org) or Recording of the Month (musicweb-international.com) are only part of the proof of the enthusiastic reception that La Morra's CD releases continue to enjoy among international music critics and the public. A melting pot of national temperaments, La Morra makes its home in Basle, the cultural capital of Switzerland, in close proximity to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (where the performance of "early music" has been taught since 1933), the city's 550-year-old university and the rich resources for Early Music housed in the libraries of these institutions. Under the artistic leadership of the Swiss flutist/harpsichordist Corina Marti and the Polish lutenist Michal Gondko, La Morra re-defines itself according to the requirements of the projects it undertakes. For Luz del alva, Marti and Gondko join forces with the Catalan singer and harpist Arianna Savall, the Norwegian singer Petter Udland Johansen and the Swedish historical bowed instruments player Tore Eketorp.
